This deeply sweet and nutty small-batch release is the first Glenmorangie ever to be finished in rare Palo Cortado sherry casks. Palo Cortado is the rarest variety of sherry, created purely by chance, when the protective "flor" yeast does not form on sherry intended to become Amontillado. The single malt spent its first eight years mellowing in American white oak bourbon casks and an extra four years finished in Palo Cortado casks. Aged for 12 years, it brings a new elegance to the Highland Distillery's delicate style. Burnt amber in color. Rich, elegant and rounded on the nose. Toffee, fudge and vanilla entwine with notes of moss and mulled wine, followed by scents of honeyed ginger, chocolate truffle and cinnamon. An oily yet peppery texture with a burst of rich, sweet flavors. Treacle toffee and milk chocolate are threaded with notes of clove and ginger. Undertones of raisins, dark plums and bitter orange find delectable balance with baking rye bread and salted nuts. The finish is ong and nutty, brimming with spice, leather and aniseed.
